Khadga Jatra (Festival)

Dasain is Nepal's most thrilling and memorable festival. In Kathmandu activities such as masked dancing, kite flying, bamboo swinging and ritual bathing in holy rivers culminate in a finale of unrivalled spectacle.
Hindus and many Buddhists receive tika, a rice immersed in red liquid and placed as a spot on their forehead. The temples in Nepal hosts the Festival of the Sword, Khadga Jatra, representing the victory of good over evil by commemorating the legendary killing of a demon by the goddess Durga.

Hundreds of animals are slaughtered to honour Durga and seek her blessing. Sacrifices are made and their blood is spattered on cars to protect the vehicles and their occupants against accidents during the coming year.
